Board-Certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner — Texas & New Mexico
I am Afoma Nwankwo, a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner board-certified in managing complex psychiatric conditions. As a PMHNP, I bring an impressive academic background in psychiatry and over 14+ years of hands-on experience in mental health care across diverse clinical settings.
Throughout my career, I have worked with patients across the full lifespan — including adults, geriatrics, adolescents, and children — facing a wide range of challenges: behavioral disorders, anxiety, ADHD, mood disorders, substance use and disorder, depression, alcohol disorders, and significant life transitions, in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
I offer comprehensive diagnostic evaluations, mental health assessment, medication management, and supportive therapy. My approach is consistently proactive — I am committed to staying current with the latest evidence-based research on managing mental health disorders so my patients always receive the highest standard of care.
"I strongly believe in not letting your struggle become your identity — because a healthy mind is the greatest gift. Mental illness is not a personal failure. Let us work towards a healthy mindset and a positive road to recovery together."
